Markel Corporation is an insurance, reinsurance, and investment holding company operating worldwide. Markel was founded in 1930, with its headquarters located in Richmond, Virginia. The "Insurance - U.S." segment includes all direct commercial and facultative insurance coverages underwritten by the Company's U.S.-based insurance subsidiaries. The "Insurance - International" segment includes all direct commercial and facultative insurance coverages underwritten by the Company's non-U.S.-based insurance subsidiaries, including Lloyd's of London syndicate. The "Reinsurance" segment includes all reinsurance contracts underwritten by the Company's structures.
